Marjorie Nadine Underwood, 85, gained her angel wings, with her family by her side, on February 17, 2015 at Hospice House. She was born May 13, 1929 in Hutchinson, Kansas, the daughter of William and Rachel Hockman Morgan.
A lifetime Hutchinson resident, she was a homemaker and excellent caregiver. In 1982, she founded Grandma’s Taxi Service when her first grandchild was born. Her children and grandchildren were her life and she enjoyed all the time spent with them. Her hobbies included knitting, crocheting, sewing, genealogy, dancing, playing bingo, and going to the casino ‘with a plan’. She enjoyed watching and listening to college basketball, especially the Hutchinson Blue Dragons.
On October 12, 1949, she married Jerry W. Underwood in Hutchinson, he died May 28, 2007. She is survived by her son, Earl, of Hutchinson; two daughters, Kathy of Hutchinson, and Lynne of McPherson; two sisters Lorraine “Pete” Hemphill, of Hutchinson and Jeannie (Richard) Wintamute, of Inman; two grandchildren, Dustin, of Monte Vista, Colorado, and Alexandra, of McPherson; along with numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, four sisters; Phyllis LaMunyon, Joyce Cunningham, Charlotte Morgan, Melba Morgan; and a brother, Butch Morgan
Cremation has taken place and a celebration of life will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Hospice House in care of Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home.
