Max L. Malmstrom
1927 - 2015

Max L. Malmstrom, 87, died Jan. 6, 2014 at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center, after a long illness. He was born Dec. 25, 1927 in Salina, KS, the son of Oscar and Minnie Nelson Malmstrom.

He was retired from Westar Energy as a Shift Foreman after 45 years of service. He was a United States Army veteran serving in the 45th Division in both Korea and Japan during the Korean Conflict. He was awarded both the Purple Heart and the Soldiers’ Medal.

On Sept. 7, 1952 he married Helen Vaupel in Salina, KS, she survives of the home. Other survivors include two sons; Rory of Denver, CO and Greg of Hutchinson, KS, and a brother, Delno of Topeka. He was preceded in death by a brother and a sister.

Open Visitation time will be from 1:00 PM to 2:30 PM, Sat. at Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home. Private family burial will take place. Memorials may be given to the Wounded Warrior Foundation in care of the funeral home.
