Viola J. Hamby, 70, died November 4, 2014 at her home in Hutchinson. She was born October 2, 1944 in Hutchinson, the daughter of Horace and Viola Sutton Johnson. A resident of Hutchinson all of her life, she had been a waitress at several local establishments. She was a member of the Salvation Army Church. She married her beloved high school sweetheart, Tommy Hamby on October 25, 1962 in Hutchinson. He died September 8, 2011.

Survivors include 4 sons, Troy Hamby, Hutchinson, Tim Hamby, Penn, Todd Hamby, Hutchinson, and Travis Hamby, Hutchinson, 2 sisters, Anna Gray, Hutchinson and Donna Lemen, FL, 3 brothers, Charles Johnson, CO, Ralph Johnson and John Johnson, both of FL, 9 grandchildren, and 10 Great Grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and 2 brothers, Edward Criswell and Jimmie Johnson.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM Tuesday at the Salvation Army Church, Hutchinson with Majors Dan Burris and Mary Burris presiding. Visitation will be held from 9AM to 9PM Monday, with the family receiving friends from 6-8PM that evening, all at Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home and Crematory, Hutchinson. Memorial contributions may be made to the Salvation Army Church or Gentiva Hospice, both in care of the funeral home.
