David D. Fast, 92, died at Buhler Sunshine Meadows, Buhler, KS, on June 23, 2014. He was born Aug. 12, 1921 at home, near Medora, KS, the son of D.G. and Anna Willems Fast. He was a longtime Inman resident also living in Hutchinson and Buhler.
He was a self-employed farmer and was a retired carpenter for Jost & Wiens Construction. He was a 1939 graduate from Zoar Academy and Bible School, Inman, KS and had attended Grace Bible Institute in Omaha, NE. He and his wife Fran were loyal volunteers with RVICS – Roving Volunteers in Christ’s Service. He was a member of First Church of the Nazarene, Hutchinson, KS.
On Nov. 2, 1945 he married Frances “Fran” Steward in Charlotte, MI. She died Jan. 25, 2012. Survivors include his children; Timothy and LeAnn Fast, Inman, KS, Karen and Steve Sites, Hillsboro, KS, Vernon Fast, Hutchinson, KS, David and Karen Fast, Topeka, KS and Leland Fast, San Antonio, TX, four sisters; Anna Kliewer, Reedley, CA, Helen Hornbaker, Hutchinson, KS, Rose Ratzlaff, Washington and Frieda Goertzen, Henderson, NE, 11 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and three great great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Steven, his parents, two brothers; Joseph and Roy and two sisters; Marie and Linda.
Funeral service will be 10:30am, Friday at First Church of the Nazarene with Pastors Doug Wyatt and Bones Nay presiding. Burial will follow at Zoar Cemetery, rural Inman, KS. Visitation will be from 1:00pm to 9:00pm Wednesday and 9:00am to 9:00pm Thursday, with the family present from 6:00pm to 8:00pm at Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home. Memorials may be given to RVICS or Buhler Sunshine Meadows in care of the funeral home.
