Donald D. Powers went home to be with the Lord on Jan. 26, 2014, he was 49.
He was born Donald D. King on April 3, 1964 in Hutchinson, KS. His grandparents Norman N. Powers and Margaret A. (Shores) Powers adopted him on Dec. 29, 1969 and he grew up in Hutchinson.
Don graduated from Hutchinson High School in May of 1982. He completed the printing program through the Central Kansas Technical School. In April of 1982 he attended the Skills Olympic contest in Wichita, KS and received second place in offset printing and graphics communication. In 1985 and 1986, he attended Liberty University in Lynchburg, VA, focusing on Biblical Studies. In 1990 he and his family returned to Kansas. He attended AmTech in Wichita, from 1992 to 1993 and completed the Electronics Technology Program and earned his certification as a Certified Electronics Technician. His primary occupation was a pressman in the printing industry, with his interest in electronics and computers; he transitioned into the field of computers. He was employed by R.L. Polk/Wolverine Printing and Publishing as a computer specialist from May of 1996 until June of 2005 resigning, due to failing health. He was a member of Legacy Bible Church, and his interests included, biblical studies, woodworking, chess and amateur radio.
Don married Alana Diane McFall, April 17, 1982 in South Hutchinson, KS, she survives. Other survivors include their son, Joseph L. Powers, Colorado Springs, CO, a brother David N. Powers, Hutchinson, sisters, Debra Bright, Derby, Judith Sthole, Ulysses and Norma Fadely, Logan, OH. He was preceded in death by his parents, Norman and Margaret Powers and his brother Laverne D. Powers.
Funeral service will be 10:00am, Friday at Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home with Pastor Victor Halfmoon presiding. Burial will be at 2:00pm, Friday at the Abilene Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9:00am to 9:00pm Weds. and Thurs. at the funeral home, with the family present from 6:00PM to 8:00PM, Thursday. Memorials may be given to Hospice House in care of the funeral home.
