John E. Baxter, Jr., 70, died Aug. 14, 2013 at the Hospice Unit at the Robert Dole VA Hospital, Wichita. He was born
Sept. 6, 1942 in Hutchinson, KS, the son of John Baxter, Sr. and Cora Smith.
He was a lifetime Hutchinson resident. He was Senior Heavy Equipment Operator for the City of Hutchinson retiring after 48 years of service.
He was a United States Army Veteran and was a member of AMVETS Post 11, D.A.V, American Legion Lysle Rishel Post 68 and V.F.W. Bob Campbell Post 1361, all of Hutchinson.
On July 31, 1965 he married Beulah Elaine Hall in McPherson, she preceded him in death in 2012. On July 1, 1982 he married Judie Meserve in Hutchinson.
Survivors include his wife Judie Baxter, of Hutchinson, daughter, Deanna Prichard and husband Stanley, Hutchinson, son, Jay Meserve and wife Carol, Oklahoma City, OK, daughter, Julie Coil and husband Troy, Hutchinson, 16 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, Charles and Velma Smith, who raised John, and a brother, Dennis Baxter.
Funeral service will be 10:00 am, Sat. at Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home with Pastor Eldon Smith presiding. Visitation will be from 9:00 am to 9:00 pm Friday, with the family to greet friends
from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home. Memorials may be given to the Hospice Unit at the Robert Dole VA Hospital in care of the funeral home.
