Antonia N. “Toni” Martinez, 85, passed away peacefully Sunday, June 23, 2013, surrounded by family, at Hospice House, Hutchinson. She was a devoted wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
She was born September, 22, 1927 in Great Bend, Kansas, her mother, Angelita Navarro Vieyra, her father, Pedro Vieyra, and step-mother, Margaret Vieyra.
A longtime resident of Hutchinson, she worked as a custodian in the Wiley Offices, and had formerly worked at the Econo Wash, and Ineeda Laundry. She was a member of the GI Forum Ladies Auxilary, and Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church.
Antonia met John Martinez at a Halloween party at the Convention Hall in 1943 and they were married December 27, 1947. He passed June 13, 2009.
She is survived by; children, Linda (Daniel) Garcia, John (Shannon) Martinez, Anna Martinez, Rebecca West, all of Hutchinson, and Timothy (Tammy) Martinez, Santa Fe, NM; grandchildren, Orlando (Veronica) Garcia, TX, Daniel Garcia, Jr., CO, Nigel (Todd) McCauley, Hutchinson, Amanda Martinez, OK, John Bryan (Kristin) Martinez, Hutchinson, Pedro Juarez and Dylan Babson, Hutchinson, David (Rachel) Martinez, Wichita, Antonio Martinez, Wichita, Emilio Martinez, Hutchinson, Angela (Keith) Zwickl, Hutchinson, Anthony Martinez, Hutchinson, Travis (Angie) West, Lawrence, and Hope West, Hutchinson; 22 great-grandchildren; siblings, Hank Vieyra, Inez Vieyra, and Mary Vieyra all of Hutchinson, and Cecilia (Richard) Gutierrez, Wichita; nephews, James Martinez, Hutchinson and Tony Martinez, Jr., Newton; and niece, Rafaila Sealover, Columbus, GA.
She was preceded in death by; daughters, Mary Elizabeth Martinez and Elizabeth Lee Juarez; brothers, Santos, Tino, and Pedro Vieyra; sister, Hope Vieyra; and sons-in-law, David Martinez and Ronald E. West.
Rosary will be 7:00 P.M., Wednesday, June 26, 2013 at Penwell Gabel Funeral Home Chapel, Hutchinson. Funeral Mass will be 10:00 A.M., Thursday, June 27, 2013 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, South Hutchinson, with Father Ned J. Blick presiding.
