Robert Franko, 89, died July 10, 2014, at Hospice House, Hutchinson. He was born April 15, 1925 in Star Junction, PA, the son of Stephan and Mary Knudson Franko.
He was a longtime Hutchinson resident and was a United States Navy veteran serving during World War II. He was retired as the Store Manager for Kansas Oxygen. He was a member of St. Teresa’s Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus Council 612, American Legion Lysle Rishel Post 68, and V.F.W. Bob Campbell Post 1361. He was a longtime member of Carey Park Golf Course and was an avid golfer; he also loved to watch baseball and football.
On April 28, 1944 he married Margaret Pullan in Chicago, IL, she died May 10, 2011. Survivors include his sons; James Franko and wife Sue, Mark Franko, Michael Franko, and David Franko, all of Hutchinson, his brother, John of Michigan, two granddaughters; Jennifer Viel and husband Tom and Kristine Egelhoff and husband Barry all of IL, also 4 great-grandchildren.
Cremation has taken place and a memorial graveside service will be 10:00am, Tuesday, July 15 at Penwell-Gabel Cemetery with Fr. Joseph Eckberg presiding. Military graveside honors will be conducted by the United States Navy Honor Guard. There will be a book to sign from 9:00am to 9:00pm, Monday at Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home and Crematory. In lieu of flowers memorials may be given in Bob's name to the donor’s choice.
