Joseph P. Redd, 100, died July 24, 2014, at the Cedars in McPherson, KS. He was born Feb. 12, 1914, in Hutchinson, KS, the son of Ottis and Nellie Jones Redd. He was a graduate of St. Teresa’s High School and a Reno County resident most of his life, moving to Alamo, TX in 1991, returning to McPherson in 2003.
He was a self-employed farmer, and had also worked in the Maintenance Department at Buhler High School, retiring in 1979. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, McPherson.
On Sept. 14, 1943, he married Edna M. Sandow in Hutchinson; she died Feb. 11, 2003. Survivors include a son, Dennis Redd (Sallie), Lenexa, KS; two daughters, Patty Winter, Mission, KS, and Elaine Ragan, Marquette, KS; 5 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.
Parish rosary will be 10:00 AM, Monday, July 28, with Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 10:30 AM at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 520 E. Northview, McPherson, KS. Burial will be at 2:00 PM, Monday, in Penwell-Gabel Cemetery, Hutchinson. Visitation will be 9:00 AM to 9:00 PM, Saturday and 1:00 PM to 9:00 PM, Sunday, with the family present from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, Sunday, all at Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home and Crematory. Memorials may be given to Hospice of Reno County or St. Joseph Catholic Church, in care of the funeral home.
