Mavis M. Koestel, 86, died December 17, 2014 at Pleasant View Home, Inman. She was born September 22, 1928 in Birmingham, England, the daughter of Sidney and Kathleen Rushton Goodway. When she was 18 years old, she came to the states from England on a ship by herself to marry her first husband, Paul Cannon, whom she met in England while he was in the service.They were married January 28, 1947 in Hutchinson. He died February 28, 1975. She then married Kenneth Koestel on December 27, 1976 in Hutchinson. She worked as a secretary at Hartman Manufacturing and later Cessna.
Survivors include her husband Kenneth, of the home, 3 sons, Steve (Diane) Cannon, Hutchinson, Greg (Debbie) Cannon, Hutchinson, and Chris (Kathy) Cannon, Haven, a step-son, Gary (Susan) Koestel, Hutchinson, 4 step-daughters, Cindy Koestel, Hutchinson, Kim (Chris) Humiston, Hutchinson, Janet (Daniel) Mora, Hamilton, OH, and Pam (Craig) Heitmann, Richardson, TX, a brother, Roger (Lorraine) Goodway, Holt, MO, 20 grandchildren, and 36 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Cremation is planned. Graveside inurnment services will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Reno County in care of Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home and Crematory, Hutchinson.
