Chester L. Andres, 96, died November 9, 2014 at the Dillon Living Center, Hutchinson. He was born October 21, 1918 in Las Animas, CO, the son of Edward and Lulu Talenda Andres. He was a graduate of Newton High School and had received his Engineering degree from K-State University. He was an engineer for Southwestern Bell/AT&T for 40 years. He served 2 terms as President for the Salvation Army (statewide), President of the Noon Optimist Club, where he organized the Soap Box Derby, President of the Pioneer Club, was on the Advisory Board for Sunflower Council of the Girl Scouts, was a member of the Albert Pike 303 Masonic Lodge for 70 years, and was a deacon at the Congregational Church, Hutchinson. He was a Staff Sgt. in the United States Army, serving overseas and earning his Bronze Star in combat. He was married to Maxine Mable Davison for 60 years. She died May 22, 2001.
He is survived by 2 daughters, Annalee Anneler, Edmond, OK and Lynette Shafer, Hutchinson, 4 grandchildren, and 5 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a daughter, Michelle Andres.
Cremation is planned. Graveside inurnment will take place at 2:00 PM Thursday at Greenlawn Cemetery, Newton, with Pastor Matt Stafford presiding.
