Lenora Urban Stremel, 93, of Hutchinson and former longtime McCracken resident, passed away July 6, 2015 at Pleasant View Home, Inman.
Lenora was born on July 13, 1921 in Hays, KS to Alois and Dorothy Basgall Urban. She spent the majority of her childhood and young adulthood on a farm near Loretto, KS. She married Celestine Stremel on May 5, 1941 in St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Loretto. They moved to McCracken in 1943. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and the Altar Society. She was also a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church, Hutchinson, during the last 13 years. Lenora loved having family dinners, cooking and baking. She was a fantastic seamstress. Many friends and family will remember the beautiful birthday and wedding cakes that she baked and decorated.
She is survived by four daughters; Shirley Bundy of Hutchinson, Kathleen Stremel Thomas (Paul) of Parsons, Carolyn Davenport (David) of Hutchinson, Lanette Kaster (David) of Overland Park, one brother, LeRoy Urban of Raytown, MO, five grandchildren; Celeste Davis (Dale) of Memphis, TN, Denise Fuller (Norman) of Miltonvale, LeAnn Knight (Barry) of Hutchinson, Travis Elias (Tina) of Colby, Tyrel Elias (Tina) of McCracken, 13 great-grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren and a Special Friend, Cathie Shapiro. She was preceded in death by her husband, Celestine, in 1998, by her parents, one sister, Lioba Sanders, and two brothers, Elmo and Laverne Urban.
Cremation has taken place and Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 AM, Saturday, July 18, 2015 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, McCracken, KS. Parish Rosary will be prayed prior to the service at 10:45 AM, with Fr. Matthew Kumi celebrating. Burial will take place at the McCracken City Cemetery. There will be a book to sign from 9:00 AM to 9:00 PM Thursday and 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM Friday at Hutchinson Funeral Chapel and Crematory, Hutchinson.
