Alfred C. Miller, 93, passed away February 12, 2014 at Mennonite Friendship Manor, South Hutchinson. He was born May 29, 1920 in Wakita, OK, the son of Hugh and Arabella Loomis Miller. He married Ruth Madden on June 4, 1944 in Henryetta, OK. They began their ministry at Lone Star Friends Church in S.W. Kansas. They went to the Belgian Congo in 1946 where they served as Friends missionaries for 18 years. They then moved back to Kansas where they taught in schools and were involved in the Friends Churches for 10 years. They then returned to Africa to serve as missionaries for 8 more years.
The two retired in Hutchinson, where they were involved doing the Lord's work in their retirement community and the Friend's Church.
Survivors include his wife Ruth, South Hutchinson, 3 sons, Fred (Marvia) Miller, Colby, KS, Grady (Carol) Miller, Independence, KS, and David (Jacque) Miller, Ft. Collins, CO, a daughter, Ruth Kemper, Wichita, KS, a brother, Alden Miller, Tulsa, 9 Grandchildren, and 24 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, 3 brothers, Leland, Darrell, and Carlton, and a granddaughter, Kristin Rathbun.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM Saturday at Friends Church, Hutchinson, with Pastor Gary Getting presiding. Graveside services will be held at 2:30 PM Saturday at Manchester Cemetery, Manchester, OK. Visitation will be held from 9AM to 9PM Friday, with the family present from 6-8PM that evening, all at Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home and Crematory, Hutchinson. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Evangelical Friends Mission Great Lakes Leadership Training.
