Leonard F. Swan Jr. went home to be with the Lord on August 30, 2014 at his home.
He was born in Hutchinson, KS on February 3, 1929 to Leonard & Goldie Swan. He was very proud of his Cherokee Heritage.
He married the love of his life, Shirley Tomlin, on April 30, 1950. They spent 64 wonderful years together.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley Swan and his children and their spouses, Marsha Mattox & Ernie, Debbie Gideon-Long & Mark Long, Susan Kauffman & Larry, Chris Swan, Tamara Clark & James. And his "Fifth Daughter" Vicki Mitchell & Bob.
He also is survived by his Grandchildren. Vance Mattox, Ben Mattox, Wendy Wasinger, Kay Kennedy, La Donna Norris, Jason Wright, Jessica Ketner, Greg Kauffman, Brandon Kauffman, Dawn White, Amanda Bailey, Leonard William Swan, Michael Clark, Ashley Carson, Tiffany Spence. He also has 35 Great Children and 1 Great Great Grandson. He was preceded in death by his parents, grandson Mark Long, Jr. and great-grandson, Leonard Finn Swan.
He is a member of Westside Baptist Church of Hutchinson.
Leonard retired from Dillon's Bakery and The Kansas State Fairgrounds. He also served in the United States Army and as a Lieutenant on the Hutchinson Police Reserves. He spent a lot of time influencing the lives of children through his involvement as President of McCandless PTA, Coaching and Umpiring softball and baseball and a Boy Scout Leader. He was a member of Delos Smith Carving class, where he learned carving and carved a Santa Claus twice a year for our Tomlin Family Reunions, where it was always a hot commodity.
Funeral service will be 10:00 AM, Wednesday at Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home with Pastor Wayne Pittman presiding. Burial will follow in Fairlawn Burial Park. Visitation will be from 9:00 AM to 9:00 PM, Monday and Tuesday at the funeral home with the family present from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, Tuesday. Memorials may be given to Shop with a Cop or Cause for Paws in care of the funeral home.
