Marilynn V. Mettler, 87, died April 17, 2014 at Cheyanne Mountain Care Center, Colorado Springs, CO. She was born Feb. 23, 1926 in Topeka, KS, the daughter of Isaac and Dicki Fish Vernon.
She received her Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Missouri, Columbia, then her Master’s Degree from Colorado University, Boulder, later receiving her PhD. in Nursing from Texas Women’s University. She had helped to start many nursing programs including at Butler County Community College, El Dorado and St. John’s College, Winfield, later she taught nursing at the University of Southern Colorado in Pueblo, CO and Pueblo Community College.
Survivors include a son, Max of Pueblo, CO, sister, Patricia Derrig, niece Marilynn Huff, nephew, Robert Kirkhuff and numerous other nephews and nieces. She was preceded in death by a sister, Wilma.
Graveside service will be 11:00am, Thursday, April 24 at Fairlawn Burial Park Mausoleum. Visitation will be from 9:00am to 9:00pm, with the family receiving friends from 6:00pm to 8:00pm Wednesday at Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home. Memorials may be given to the American Cancer Society or St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital in care of the funeral home.
