Audrey Marie Howard McCain Collins, 94, died April 14, 2013 at her home in Hutchinson, KS, with both her sons present. She was born Nov. 17, 1918, in Ness County, KS. She was a graduate of Ness City Schools. She was a published author and known for her poetry. On Jan. 13, 1938 she married Harvey H. McCain at Ness City. He died May 17, 1961. She married Ray Collins on October 28, 1962 at Burrton, KS. He died March 21, 1993.
She is survived by her sons, Howard McCain and Kay, Burrton, and Kim McCain and Sherry, Seibert, CO, her brother, Ben Howard, Merced, CA, 7 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, and 6 great great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by 2 grandsons, 3 sisters, a brother, and her parents. She was also preceded by her loving companion Monte Copenhaver.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM Friday at Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home and Crematory, Hutchinson, with Pastor Don Johnson and Chaplain Bob Phipps presiding. Burial will follow at Burrton City Cemetery, Burrton. Visitation will be held from 9AM to 9PM Thursday, with the family present from 6-8PM that evening, all at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Reno County, the Stroke Survivors Association, or to Waldron Place, all in care of the funeral home.
